Manuscript transcript in two bound books of the diary of Lt Col George Robertson Hennessy, 15th (The Ludhiana) Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry, 12 Dec 1878-15 May 1880. At the commencement of the diary Hennessy and his regiment are on the road to Quetta, arriving on 10 Jan 1879 and proceeding to Kandahar, which they reach on 27 Jan and remain there until 28 Mar 1880 when they leave in the direction of Kabul. The entries end at a point between the two towns. Whilst at Kandahar Hennessy reports on events in the town- an outbreak of cholera, minor raids and murders by the hostile tribesmen, and many other occurrences during a very boring fourteen months. Associated with the 2nd Afghan War (1878-1880).
