Description
Manuscript letter, dated 7 Jan 1900. Written by Pte Harry Thurston during his service in the Boer War with 2nd Bn King’s (Shropshire Light Infantry) to his friend Arthur from the Orange River, Orange Free State. He describes vividly his first use of the bayonet on some Boers in a skirmish on 3 Jan 1900, and his regrets afterwards and the mundane routine of lines of communication troops. Associated with the Boer War (1899-1902).
