Photograph of many large ships and other smaller boats in a river or canal, possibly in India. Buildings can be seen on one side of the water. The image was taken, probably by Capt Edward Francis Chapman, when he accompanied Thomas Douglas Forsyth on a diplomatic and trade mission to Yarkand (Yarkant) in Western China in 1873. From a group of 33 photographs by Capt (later General Sir) Edward Francis Chapman attached to the Yarkand Embassy to China, and also in Kashmir, India, 1873.
