Description

Formation badge, Royal West African Frontier Force, 82nd (West African) Division, 1944 (c). Cotton and embroidered silk thread with pin fastening. This division was formed from two West African Infantry Brigades which had been formed in 1941 to take part in the campaigns in East Africa. In July 1944, along with the 81st (West African) Division, it was sent to India, and formed part of the 14th Army. Both divisions tok part in the assault on Myohaung and the advance through Burma to the liberation of Mandalay and Rangoon. The badge design was based on two spears crossed over the representation of a porter’s headband. This one is detachable, enabling it to be removed from either khaki drill or jungle green clothing worn for combat and operations.
