NAM.1959-04-56-1
Colour fragment associated with 103rd Regiment of Foot (Royal Bombay Fusiliers), 1873 (c). Fragment only. A monarchial crown embroidered in proper colours with silk and metal thread upon a dark blue fine corded silk ground. One side has been netted with black net. According to donor, the colour was made by the ladies of Bombay at an unspecified date and was presented to the 103rd (Royal Bombay Fusiliers). The regiment took this title in 1861. The colour was never consecrated and was never used. Known as the Bombay colour it was kept in the officer’s mess. (There is no record of this colour in the regimental history). When the regiment was disbanded in 1922 the colour became the property of Major General H W Higginson who cut the colour up and presented pieces bearing the devices and battle honours to various officers who had served with the regiment.
