Description

Regimental colour of the 1st Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry, 1824-1867. These colours went out of commission in 1867. The regiment had been numbered the 21st Bengal Native Infantry from 1824, but in recognition of its services during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859) it was renumbered as the 1st, and the colours were altered: the stitching holes of the previous number ‘XXI’ are visible on the colour. The colour bears the battle honours ‘Luswarree’ (1803) and ‘Bhurtpoor’ (1826). After new colours were issued in 1867, the old ones were kept by Lt-Gen H. Milne who was in command of the regiment at that time.
