Map case which belonged to Capt David Herbert Blake, Royal Artillery and Special Boat Service, World War Two, 1939-1945. Map shows the area of Italy around and to the south-west of Monte Cassino, 1944 (c), and is marked with numbers and unit names. Case is in two sections with the map attached to a board, which is removable from the main canvas case. The main case is of green canvas with rusted metal frame. The large flap covering the map and smaller lid flap are secured with poppers. It is marked with Blake’s name. There is a metal hook attached to the carrying handle. The lid flap has loops on the inside to hold pens or pencils. The map section of the case consists of a wooden board around which the map is wound. One side is covered with plastic and some pencils are held in an attached pocket. Associated with World War Two, Italy (1943-1945).
