Description

Typed transcript of a citation from the ‘London Gazette’, for the Distinguished Service Order awarded to Lt (Acting Maj) Robert Sibbold Paterson, Indian Armoured Corps (Skinner’s Horse), 5 Feb 1945. On 14 Jul 1944, Maj Paterson drove towards Palazzo del Pero to ascertain whether the town of Palazzo was held by the enemy. Under very heavy shelling and mortar fire he abandoned his car and continued the journey into the town by bicycle and then by foot. Despite being targeted by the enemy he managed to produce a detailed and valuable report which he managed to bring back to his headquarters unscathed. From a selection of Indian Army related documents collected by Lt David Murray Arthur Reid, Indian Armoured Corps (Skinner’s Horse). Associated with World War Two (1939-1945).
