Shako, officers’, Royal Cumberland Militia, worn by Capt J Skottowe, 1857 (c). Black beaver or plush silk. Black patented leather crown and peak. Gilt shako plate: crowned star with oak leaf wreath, VR cypher surrounded by ‘ROYAL CUMBERLAND MILITIA’. Buff leather sweatband inscribed with ‘J S’ initials. Red waterproofed textile and crimson silk lining.
