Fowke prize medal for architecture awarded to 2/Lt C F Birney, Corps of Royal Engineers, 1900. White metal. Obverse: Within a raised rim, in high relief, a portrait bust of Capt Francis Fowke in profile facing right. Reverse: Between a double raised rim, in relief, a stylised wreath of laurel entwined with ribbons. This medal was instituted in 1866 in memory of Capt Francis Fowke, to be given each year to a junior officer who had been especially distinguished during his course in the School of Construction at the School of Military Engineering.
