Officers’ shoulder belt plate, 85th Regiment of Foot, worn by Capt Thomas Mellor, 1780-1783. Rectangular white metal plate with corners cut off. Upon plate, within a geometrically stippled border, a mounted gilt copper design of a garter surmounted by a monarchial crown and pierced with the garter motto within a roped border, enclosing a lion statant gardant facing right upon an heraldic wreath. One hook and two stud fittings on reverse.
