Description

Boxing medal awarded to Pte James, 1st Bn Hampshire Regiment, 1933. White metal with relief designs on both sides. Contained in a square black hinged leather case with gold rose impressed on lid. Lid lined with white satin, lower part lined with black velvet. Obverse: Within a raised rim, a laurel wreath intertwined with scrolls. Within the wreath, a tiger passant gardant facing dexter upon a ground, below which is a five-petalled rose having a smaller five-petalled rose at the centre. Above the tiger, a scroll, above which are the numerals ‘XXXVII’, above which in turn is a monarchial crown. Reverse: A depiction of two men boxing.
