Journal kept by Cpl Gwilym Henry Elias, 1/2 Welsh Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps, whilst travelling to the Near East and serving with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force, April 1917 to August 1918.
Cpl Elias describes being torpedoed on the RMS ‘Transylvania’ in the Mediterranean and gives his impressions of France, Italy , Malta, Greece and Egypt. He makes notes on the natural history of Palestine before describing the fighting at Beersheba in November 1917 and the subsequent advance on Jerusalem.
