Silver statuette of a private of 100th (or Prince of Wales’s Royal Canadian) Regiment of Foot, 1891. Modelled on Quartermaster Wilkins, the figure is shown as a private in winter uniform of 1866, including snowshoes. A plaque on the front shows the regimental insignia. The regiment was raised in Canada in June 1858 and inherited the 1813 battle honour ‘Niagara’ from an earlier regiment known as the 100th Foot which had fought on the US-Canadian frontier in the War of 1812 and disbanded in 1818. The regiment served in Canada from 1866 to 1868, fighting against the Fenian raids. In 1881 the 100th Foot became the 1st Battalion of the Prince of Wales’s Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians). The statuette was presented to the battalion’s officers in 1891 by Major Arthur Edward Cecil Kaye (1856-1923). When the regiment was disbanded in 1922, it returned the statuette to Kaye.
