Description

Civilian, blue, body armour (known as a flak jacket) worn by BBC news correspondent Kate Adie, with Kevlar plates front and back. Manufactured by RBR Armour Limited as a custom order to Kate Adie’s specifications, October 1996. Royal Irish Regiment (inscribed in biro ‘21A’) on the back along with a Union Flag. On one shoulder is the badge of the Parachute Regiment. Associated with Bosnia (1991-). This was Kate Adie’s second flak jacket. The plates in the first one were damaged from use. At her request RBR customised this example with stronger side panels so that the weight could be carried on her hips rather than her shoulders. She chose a high collared example so that it looks more like a jacket on camera.
