Description
Smith and Wesson .44 in calibre revolver, nd. Attached is a luggage label written by Capt (later Col) Lionel Gray explaining that the pistol was previously owned by a Turkish officer, Ashraf Bey, before being given to him by T E Lawrence in 1918. With leather holster. Ashraf Bey's name, scratched on to the body of the revolver, may be seen with the handle to the right and the barrel pointing to the left: the inscription is low down, to the right of the ammunition cylinder. Associated with World War One, Arab Revolt (1916-1918).
