Description
Officer's coatee button, Royal North Down Militia, 1800-1835. Imperial crown over strap inscribed 'ROYAL NORTH DOWN MILITIA', Maid of Erin harp in centre. No rim, gilt. Hollow back. Reverse marked Firmin & Co London. The regiment became the 3rd (Militia) Battalion Royal Irish Rifles in 1881. From a collection of buttons associated with the Irish Militia.
