Description

‘Stubby’ prosthetic leg, 2015 (c)-2018. Manufactured by Blatchford at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court, Surrey, 2015 (c)-2018. Associated with Operation HERRICK, Afghanistan (2001- ) 2002-2014. These are the first prosthetic legs used for all above or through knee double amputees. Since 2009 all patients start on these short prosthetic limbs to learn core stability and hip/pelvis control. Amputees are expected to do all their rehab on stubbies rather than wheelchair. They could be on those for a number of months until they walk on them comfortably and they are less reliant on a wheelchair, then they can be moved to more sophisticated prosthetic legs. Double amputees found stubbies very convenient and tended to use them more and more in their daily life. The stability they offered and the simplicity of them made them extremely useful around the house and for every day activities. The stubbies have a shock absorber to take out some impact forces; this one has an Endolite TTPRO shock absorber.
