Description

Genium prosthetic leg/knee joint, 2012 (c)-2018. Both knee joint and foot are made by Ottobock company and were fitted at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court, Surrey, 2018. Associated with Operation HERRICK, Afghanistan (2001- ) 2002-2014. The Genium knee joint replaced the C-leg. It allows for high activity and wide range of usage, from slow walking to running for the bus. It has a second generation microprocessor, 6 motion sensors in the shin tube that detect the inclination and the camber of ground the amputee is walking over and then communicates this information directly to the knee joint (making it even more specific if going down a slope for example). It is shower-proof (not waterproof) and has hydraulic controls for flex and extension. Made by Ottobock, in 2012 it was deemed the most appropriate prosthetic leg for young and strong above the knee amputees who were coming back from Afghanistan and required a high activity prosthetic limb. The issuing of this specific Genium knee at Headley Court was relatively short lived, and was replaced by the Genium X3.
