Pattern 1822. Infantry Officer’s sword blade is slightly curved with a spear pointed, and engraved with the name of the maker, Jones; brass ‘Gothic’ hilt with folding inner guard, or ‘fall’, initials V.R and a crown in cartouche and part of the brass pommel has been cut away; wooden grip covered in fish skin; the folding inner guard allows the sword to lie flat against the wearer’s body.
