Victoria Cross, 1917. From a medal group awarded to A/Capt A M C McReady Diarmid, 17th (Service) Bn Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment), for his actions at the Moeuvres Sector, France, on 30 Nov to the 1 Dec 1917. Associated with World War One (1914-1918). During an enemy attack Capt McReady Diarmid led his company forward through a heavy barrage. He immediately engaged the enemy, with such success that he drove them back at least 300 yards, causing numerous casualties and capturing 27 prisoners. The following day the enemy attacked again and drove back another company, which had lost all its officers. Capt McReady Diarmid at once called for volunteers and attacked. He once again successfully drove the enemy back with heavy casualties. It was due to Capt McReady Diarmid's bravery and skill in bomb- throwing that the ground was regained. Capt McReady Diarmid was killed in action by a bomb when the enemy had been driven back to their starting point. Capt McReady Diarmid was born in Middlesex in 1890 and died in 1917.
