Description
Matchbox issued to and owned by Cpl E Phillips, Driscoll’s Scouts, 1900 (c). Black, possibly bakelite, with portrait of Edward VII in relief on the front; decorative design around front, back and spine. Garter with motto on reverse; ‘HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE’ and in centre ‘E.VII.’ Three rivets hold together the strike-plate and secure lids at base and top. Associated with the Boer War (1899-1902).
