Description
Belgian SAFN 7.62 mm Model 49 automatic rifle, 1950 (c). Used by Egyptian forces, 1950 (c). With magazine attached. Roundel missing. The rifle had originally been designed before World War Two (1939-1945) but was only manufactured in the post-war period. During this period the Egyptians were seeking a more modern rifle for their forces. The Model 49 with its ten round magazine and capacity for rapid fire was imported in large numbers. Manufactured to very high standards its redesign resulted in the FN-FAL (British SLR) rifle.
