Telescope, 1830s (c). Made of brass by Cary, 181 Strand, London. Extends to four sections; outermost is covered with black leather; there are leather caps for eyepiece and objective lenses. Eyepiece section engraved with makers name. Around centre of objective lens cover is a light fitting leather band with a loop for a strap. Black leather casing; Belonged to Brig Gen John Nicholson, 27th Bengal Native Infantry, 1839-1857 (c).
