Description

Le Pauvre homme à Londres/ Allez vous en canaille/ voila trois qu’on vous assiste, 1830 (c). Coloured lithograph by Pierre Langlumé, 1830 (c). Caricature of a French officer with a cat on a lead conversing with an English officer who leans from a window above. A caricature of King Charles of France in exile in London in 1830, approaching the Duke of Wellington. The cat has the name ‘Polignac’ on its collar - a reference to the ultra-royalist politician Jules de Polignac. The Duke of Wellington was rumoured to support Polignac’s coup d’etat of 1830.
