Description
History of the Newcastle Troop of Dismounted Yeomanry, 1819-1829, written by John Bell, 1830 (?). The unit, a volunteer infantry one of the social background that normally composed the yeomanry, was formed to aid the civil power in the event of riots and other disturbances. In fact they only acted once in this role, in 1822 during the keelmans' strike. The history records parades, dinners, exercises and other events.
