Typed transcript petition, 1980 (c). Sent to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland from John St Leger, late Lieutenant of the 24th Light Dragoons, dated from Armagh Prison. He was sentenced to transportation in September 1797 for swearing in members of his regiment as United Irishmen. He was still in prison 84 weeks after his first committal in December 1796, and he pleaded for release, stating that the indiscretion he had committed was the result of drink.
