Description
Pattern 1803 Light Infantry Officer, Presentation sword, 1822. Blade is decorated with engraving and bluing. Ivory grip with a pommel in the shape of a light Dragoon’s helmet; made by John Read and Sons. Few records of Yeomanry units survive, however, it was customary for them to give expensive presentation swords to officers leaving the regiment as a mark of esteem, rather than for a specific exploit. This weapon was presented to Capt Charles Brownlow, Lurgan Yeomanry Infantry, who became captain of the regiment in 1796 and spent 25 years in command.
