Depicts a full length portrait of a soldier facing to the right, wearing a helmet, chainmail, a tunic with cross detail, and a sword at his belt, he carries a spear in his right hand and a shield in his left.
Drawing on card, attached to the front of which is a sheet of covering paper inscribed lower right, 'Chap: III half- / page.', this suggests that it was intended as a book illustration.
Inscribed very faintly in pencil as title underneath the drawing.
