NAM.1995-03-110-1
Headquarters United Kingdom Land Forces (HQ UKLF) board listing Women’s Royal Army Corps commanders, 1972-1993. HQ UKLF was formed through the amalgamation of three English geographical commands - Northern Command, Southern Command and Western Command - on 1 April 1972. It came about from the establishment of HQ Army Strategic Command (STRATCO) on 1 April 1968, formed to direct Britain's defence effort in Europe and the North Atlantic after troops were withdrawn from bases east of Suez. STRATCO commanded all UK-based forces fro all matters, except local administration. Its final incarnation was as Land Command, or HQ Land, assuming control of all Army combat and combat support troops (with the exception of Cyprus, the Falklands and Northern Ireland). Land Command lasted from 1995 until 2008 when it amalgamated with HQ Adjutant General and became HQ Land Forces.
