Other ranks’ proficiency badge, Unidentified Artillery Volunteers, 1866.
Upon a scarlet cloth ground, an embroidered design of a blue silk padded circlet trimmed with gold wire beading and a gold wire embroidered scallop pattern bearing the gold embroidered title and date ‘NATIONAL ARTILLERY ASSOCIATION / 1866’. Within the circlet, a padded silver wire embroidered shield edged with twisted gold wire thread and gold sequins, bearing three gold wire embroidered guns one above the other. Reverse backed with paper and bears a circular paper label, apparently stuck over another similar label.
