Letter sent by Tpr J Evans, 15th (Northumberland) Coy 5th Bn Imperial Yeomanry to his former employer Mr Davis, Fountain Hotel, Tenbury, Worcestershire from Mafeking, 4 Jan 1901.
Evans is in hospital in Mafeking with rheumatic fever, he is still observing the pledge, growing a beard, ‘like a Dutchman’ and complains at the cost of consumables, although he thinks that if the pay is 5/- per day to an Imperial Yeoman of one year’s service then he won’t mind staying a little longer.
