Small autograph book of Victoria Cross recipients and other Army personnel, kept by Idella Smith, nd. Inside is written, ‘Dinner given by the late Duke of Windsor when he was the Prince of Wales to [ ] all VCs 1914-1918. Was at the Houses of Parliament in London. Autograph s collected by me during transporting them [ ] by car. To and fro to the London stations and to hotels and houses of Parliament to dinner. Idella W Smith. The VC winners who have autographed the book include, W C Fuller VC (1914), L M Keysor (1915), H W Lewis VC (1916), J Collins VC (1917), T Veale VC (1916), J Halliwell VC (1918), H Christian VC (1915), M O’Leary nephew of M O’Leary VC (1915), W Gregg VC (1918), R J. Bye VC (1917), N Harvey VC (1918), F W Holmes (1914), T Edwards (1884), W E Heaton VC (1900), A Halton VC (1917), J Hutchinson VC (1916), J Hewitson VC(1918), W H Johnson VC (1918), T Kenny VC (1915), S Harvey VC (1915) and F W Hedges (1918). There are also several signatures of other army personnel, including H Calderwood and Richard Armstrong-Carr, together with four illegible autographs.
