Description

Court Martial Verdict, 1702. Verdict of General Court Martial held at Weert 4 Sep 1702 under the presidency of Wynne, at which James Grant and Simon Connard were sentenced to death for resisting arrest and threatening NCO's of the Guard. Confirmed by Marlborough (signed by him) 18 Sep 1702, to the effect that Grant should die, but that Connard be let off on the courts recommendation since he had 'but lately come into the Army, and has never heard the Articles of War read'. Grant was a member of the Royal Regiment of Scots Dragoons and Connard served in Brigadier Rosse's Regiment of Dragoons, 5th Royal Irish Dragoons. From a collection of papers associated with the Wynne Family, 1694-1854.
