MS letter, dated Poona 15th (1857?) from Colonel R Phayre Q M R to Melvill reporting rumours about 24th Native Infantry (Bombay) refusing to bite the ends off cartridges. Associated with the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859). From papers of Major-General Sir Peter Melvill, Secretary to the Government of Bombay in the Military and Marine Departments 1840-1859.
