TS description and list of the papers of Henry Spenser Wilkinson, Chichele Professor of Military History at Oxford University, 1909-23, acquired July 1958 by Army Museums Ogilby Trust - correspondence, articles, lectures etc, period 1881-1933, and six further copies; folder of TS transcripts (and photocopies) of letters, journals, sketches etc from the Williamson Papers, describing the siege of Fort William Henry, 1757, the capture of Louisbourg 1758, Quebec, 1759, Montreal 1760, Belle Isle, 1761, Martinique 1761-2 and the Siege of Detroit, 1763, including prefaratory remarks and some notes by the compiler of the transcripts, G H Cleare, together with TS transcript of letters and journals describing the war in Travancore and Mysore 1790-93, with indices, made from the original manuscripts, in the papers of Col Adam Williamson (- copy No 2, with MS corrections), by G H Cleare. From a box containing papers divided up by a set of East-Light Index dividers (A to L), described on spine as ‘Personal Papers’. The material consists exclusively of lists (and reports) of collections of papers and archive material either directly illustrative of, or highlighted to show relevance to, British military history from the end of the seventeenth century to the early twentieth centuries. HMC lists suggest the information was put together in the 1950s and 1960s. Collection of lists of private papers of military individuals. No personal papers to indicate precisely by whom the material was assembled.
