Ms letter written to Andrew Caldwell from Naples, February 15th 1783. Accounts have come in of an earthquake in Sicily on the 5th which has destroyed the whole town of Messina besides thirty two other towns and near a hundred thousand people lost. He dined with the Governor, Gen Acton, and discussed the tragedy and aid being arranged for the survivors.
