Description
One of ten manuscript letters addressed to Maj Gen Alexander Dury, in French, 1758 (c), eight of which are undated. Two of the letters are from Marshall the Duke of Belleisle and are dated 16 Feb and 30 Apr 1758. Belleisle was a prisoner of war in Britain, 1744-1745. He was captured at Elbingerode in December 1744 and imprisoned in Windsor Castle, where in March-April 1745, Maj Gen Alexander Dury, 1st Regiment of Foot Guards, was responsible for him and made attempts to find a house for the Duke and his suite to live in. Belleisle returned to France, escorted by Dury in August 1745, and they apparently corresponded until 1755.
