Photograph of the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards on the shooting ranges at Pirbright Camp, 1912. There is possibly a competition taking place. A long line of soldiers in service dress lie on the ground with their rifles pointing out towards the ranges. Each soldier with a rifle has another soldier sitting with him to help with spotting and possibly assessing or keeping track of scores if it is a competition. Other soldiers, including an officer with a large white flag in his hands stand nearby and watch. There are fields, trees and a large barn in the distance. From an album of 212 photographs (including archives) compiled by or presented to Lt Col Wadham Heathcote Diggle, 1910-1912 (c). It includes many portraits, group portraits and other images, many taken at the Guards Depot in Caterham and Pirbright, plus images of parades, sports, dogs and horses.
