Scabbard is stamped black leather with gilt copper mouth, the inside of which is engraved with the maker’s name, John Read ; a strap and buckle is attached to each ring; belonging to Light Cavalry or Dragoons Sabre; there are possibilities that this weapon may have Indian Army or Rifle Regiment connections; previous owner was the father of Col Hay, who served with the 1st Bengal (D.C.O) Lancers.
