Description
Letter from Pte Eustace Swain, 3rd (King’s Own) Hussars attached 9th (Queen’s Royal) Lancers, South Africa to his friend Tom Humberstone, England, 27 Feb 1901. Pte Swain describes war will last another 12 months ‘The famous De-Wet is still troubling us we are now at a place called Bethulie Bridge [to] try to stop him getting into the Colony ... he is fairly showing us up for some of our bigest Generals of the day are after him and yet cant catch him I am getting tired of it’. Associated with Boer War (1899-1902).
