Description
Photograph of the town of Ladysmith and surrounding hills, South Africa, taken from a rocky hillside during the Boer War 1899-1902. It shows trees and many house and other buildings. The image was purportedly taken by Benjamin William Caney, who had a family photography business in Durban. Benjamin himself died in 1895 so the image would have been taken by another family member. From a collection of 102 photographs taken and/or collected by civilian photographer William Cox, who worked alongside early filmmaker William Kennedy-Laurie Dickson in South Africa during the Boer War for British Mutoscope and Biograph Company. Associated with the Boer War (1899-1902).
