Shortly after World War Two, a new hutted camp was built at Plasterdown. It was later used as a hospital by the American Forces. As a result of the 1973 Defence Land’s Review by Lord Nugent, the War Department’s land holdings were reduced. As part of this reduction in military requirements, the camp at Plasterdown was demolished and the site restored to moorland.
