Letter from Brig Gen E R Elles, stating that had he been given command of 2nd Division of the Tirah Expeditionary Force he would have been delighted to have had William Birdwood as an Orderly Officer, 9 Jan 1897. Originally a loose paper in Lett’s No 35 Colonial Rough Diary, 1897. From a collection of 1414 papers of FM William, Lord Birdwood, relating chiefly to his career in the Indian Army, 1882-1930.
