Description

Collar badge 1904-1947 (one of pair), inward facing horsemen on tablet ‘RELIEF OF LUCKNOW 1857’, scroll below ‘UNITED PROVINCES HORSE’. Associated with United Provinces Light Horse (1904), sub-divided 1917 to Northern and Southern Regiments. Material: silver and gilt. The figure of the horsemen is similar to an equestrian statue of Lt Gen Sir James Outram (1803-1863) in Calcutta by John Henry Foley. Outram distinguished himself in the campaign to relieve the besieged city of Lucknow during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859). The figure’s sword is sheathed in this version.
