Description

Studio portrait photograph of Captain Henry Osborne Gould, Grenadier Guards, 1865. He is standing facing the camera, leaning against a small table, with his legs crossed in front of him, right thumb casually hanging from pocket. Although wearing military uniform, it is not a typical Grenadier Guards uniform but more like a Royal Horse Artillery uniform. He wears a fur cap with a large feather attached, and a waistcoat and jacket with lacing across the front and on the cuffs. Detailing can also be seen on his trousers, which are worn tucked into boots. From an album of 202 photographs in the Grenadier Guards Photograph Archive compiled by or presented to Surgeon Major James John Marjoribanks Wardrop. The album is entitled: ‘Personal Album Surgeon Major Wardrup [sic], The Regiment, 1858-1868’, but covers the period 1854-1872. Mainly officers portraits. Grenadier Guards reference number 2.
