Description
Transcript letter, 15 Jul 1842. Written by Lt Col Thomas Stephens, 5th Regiment of Foot (Northumberland Fusiliers) to his wife Eleanor in Calcutta. Describes the condition of the ship after being stuck in a muddy bank. Associated with 1st China War (1839-1842). Stephens survived the battle of Shing Kun Foo, but died a few days later, possibly from cholera.
