Description
Letter from Pte Eustace Swain, 3rd (King’s Own) Hussars attached 9th (Queen’s Royal) Lancers, South Africa to his friend Tom Humberstone, England, 29 July 1901. Pte Swain describes he is with Gen French, still chasing De Wet. Nearly caught Steyn who left his boots behind ‘I am in good health but rather tired of this endless war ... if this war is not over by the next September why then it will last for another twelve months’. Associated with Boer War (1899-1902).
