Letter from Lt Col Standish O’Grady to his father the 1st Viscount Guillamore, dated Roquefort 11 Mar 1814. In this letter O’Grady relates that he has recently been involved in a battle (likely the Battle of Orthez 27/28 Feb 1814), and mentions that his regiment was involved in the capture of almost 800 French troops. He complains of the cold weather and snow in France, and discloses that he has been unwell, with severe swelling of the ankles (likely a case of erysipelas). He mentions that (Capt John) Townsend of the 14th Light Dragoons was taken prisoner. Typed transcript in separate folder.
