Photograph taken from an upper window showing Princess Elizabeth (Colonel of the Grenadier Guards) getting into a car with her sister Princess Margaret waiting behind her. Four men, at least three of whom are officers, stand nearby, one holding the car door. It was probably taken at Prinn Barracks in Tripoli, Libya, during a visit by Princess Elizabeth on the 18th of December 1950. Princess Elizabeth, her sister Princess Margaret and Lt Gen Sir Frederick Browning were flown by the RAF from Valletta in Malta over to Tripoli to inspect the regiment. They inspected the battalion on parade, visited the Sergeants’ Mess, met families in the YMCA and had lunch with the officers. From a photograph album of 91 photographs relating to Guardsman Dennis Richard M Brotherton, Grenadier Guards, 1949-52; mainly of his time in Libya, but also some images taken in Malta and the UK.
